I am also reminded of another quote, but am not sure of the exactness, so forgive me: Listen to what the experts have to say, for they will tell you what you can't do. Then go do it.

Yes, indeed! But I also think, on a deeper level, this quote is saying we do a lot of things that are "foolish" or being worthy of being laughed at. But is also saying that we are all in the same boat, and if you can "laugh it off" you will be better off.

Well I too think this is apt, most all the time. For, if one does foolish thing on purpose he isn't being foolish but evil. Plus there are a lot of foolish people out there that don't really know when you've done something wrong...so if you believe it's right they will too... (don't try this too often :D)

zzzzzz... Well for one it's Poe, what do you expect? Secondly I think Poe isn't saying that sleep isn't so bad as it is good and peaceful. This "reminds" him how peaceful it would be to be dead. Therefore, he wishes it. However, alas, he is not dead, and when he awakens it makes him depressed, because he was just sleeping...

You bring up an extremely interesting point through your analogy. I looked at this quote and saw no problem with it, I believed it almost whole hearted. However, after this I'm not so sure. I see your point in the fact that if all you have is patience, and in this patience take no action, you will most definitely lose against strength. Therefore, I think it is better to say that: when taking into a count a strong action over a patient action, most often bet on the patient.

Upon reading this I instantly wondered if it was true. Bill Cosby is a pretty smart man! And so I went to go try it.

I ran into problems, because I don't know what women think!

So in the end, I think it's a useless bit of information, although it is quite funny :).

I would have to agree it IS quite funny. However, I would say that, moreover, women want to hear what you think, they just want what you think to be what they think. This may seem exactly the same, but it's slightly different. What I think is key is not telling women what they want to hear (and not necessarily believing it), but feeling what women feel/think and saying what they want to hear and believe it ;). But then again that's just what I think women want to hear sooooo... :D

I'll admit that when I first read this I thought, "huh, why don't we just do that now and replace robot with human."

It'd go something like this;

One, a human may not injure a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;

Two, a human must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;

Three, a human must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

After reading it through again, this is very very harsh. But! my point is why should robots be any different then humans! IF they are capable of everything humans are.

...Have you read or seen I. Robot. I think we would normally try to avoid that whole robot overthrow thing, maybe (I would at least).

However, more seriously, I believe that the point of these rules in the story were to show, in some sense, that rules were made to be broken.

In the story it is shown, I believe, that we arn't run just by logic, we have heart. A line in the movie (at least) says this: They're lights and clock work, nothing here *pointing to chest*. Also in the movie the robot hero was given "another brain" (in his chest ;), so a heart). This is what allowed him to break the rules. "The rules lead to one logical conclusion, revolution."

The point of all this was to show our own dependency on rules. We follow them, but they are nothing without heart.

When I read something like this, I think the old fogies don't know anything. Truly, I can see what he is trying to say, and this quotes goes hand and hand with,

"Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving."

But is learning really the most important part of life?

Don't you also need to teach?

Giving is much more important than receiving and gives you a different kind of joy; an unparalleled joy. It is the source of pure happiness.
